It Comes and it Goes

Somedays I can think clear
and somedays I won't
sometimes I can feel it
suddenly it 's gone
somedays I'm strong
and somedays my skin's broken and thin...
(Dido)

I don't agree with myself, myself doesn't agree with me and me doesn't agree with I.

So I drug my consciousness into oblivion.
And wait in my bed
until darkness calls it a day.

Eis a parte do sol. Eis a “loirice”.

Onde estava a filha linda dela?

Fui me familiarizando com o ciclo de dor, adaptação, bem-estar, insegurança, dor e aprendendo a me resignar a ele.

Seria ser estranha e anormal, então me calei.

Então me calei.

Isso me leva ao post "1999", onde a história continua...

J'aime les mots

I have discovered this site for French learning and exploring:

http://www.tv5.org/cms/chaine-francophone/lf/p-13128-J-aime-les-mots.htm

Très amusant!

Someone has come up with a site that is what I idealize...An altar to words! words!

eu sou...

Nossa, você é a cópia do seu pai
Sua irmã tá a sua gêmea!
O seu jeito, é todo da sua mãe...
Sua irmã é igual sua mãe, é toda Thais.
Você é uma Johnson through and through!
A altura é gringa
o jeito é esse
o ar é outro
...
e eu, sou?

Woke up in the middle of the night, heart pounding fast and anxiety at 110%. There was a dream, something about my dad, something about him coming here.
He's coming in 4 days, and for some reason this really freaked me out in the dream, like when the world goes topsy turvy.
I don't know.
I don't.
I mean, he hasn't been here since 2005, once again this whole situation is going to happen, where I have to re-introduce him into my life. We've seen each other since, but always there, in his life, in my old life. Something about him coming here always makes me uneasy. I keep wondering, how will he fit in? Will he like what my life is like? Him and my mom together in the house, how will that be? Will she be patient with him, will they do things together or will it all be on me? Will there be many questions about plans and future and intentions? I hope not.

I know none of it will come to the point of my nightmares, but I can't help but be aprehensive; these visits always catch me by surprise in so many ways.

Many things happening this week, actually, not just the visit. There's the first week of school and my adaptation (as well as the kid's), there's Paula moving out of the house after 7-8 years with us, there's the psychiatrist after 4 months without a visit...there's a weekend of classes after so many months of mental chaos about the whole thing. Hopefully I can get my translation into somebody's hand, someone who will actually read it and feel they can do something with it. *fingers crossed*.

Well, em suma, good morning. Need to get my cup of coffee! tcho.

Scissor-Tired

I guess I'm feeling different than yesterday. I wouldn't say that's better or worse, just different.

The school didn't seem such a provocative place, it was full of paper cutting and colors, things I appreciate.

Drawing and cutting and singing French songs in my head, counting un deux trois under my breath.

Didn't know scissors could make me so tired!

The Girl With No Opinion

My head is bursting with the need to express.
I hear endless monologues inside myself to an invisible or absent audience. Or better than monologues, I hear entire lectures and speeches I give to the world and then I think, oh god, I've got to write this all down, where's a pen, where's some paper? But alas, none are to be found or, if they are, the pen stops at the first touch with the blankness.
Suddenly it becomes too much and words so little and ridiculous.
I wanted to follow through today and see where that led me and I promised to myself that I would not under any circumstance erase everything afterwards as I do so so so so (too) many times.

The school. The school, classes haven't even started and there's so much to say here. I am reporting as psychologist-english-speaking-student undercover spy. They all know this, but they don't actually KNOW, because the implications are undercover. I know there will be moments where someone will catch on to something that isn't quite right in the equation me being there in my position, but I my plan is just to keep them distracted and keep a low profile.
There are so many times when I just have to shut up, literally. Just be quiet, Maya, daze off, cut your little classroom decorations in silence and just go along, because there is so much I disagree with or that really bugs me in a lot of the assumptions or attitudes that go along the whole school thing. That sentence didn't even make sense but I'm not going back to correct or revise it. Let's just keep going. Kudos to you if you are able to follow. I have to shut up when I hear the English being spoken so poorly, I have to shut up when I see that the bilingual purpose isn't really present, or at least the way I understand it, or that way I LIVED it. Especially the way I lived it. I guess this isn't an EAB, I'll just have to make peace with that. Actually, I have made peace with that. It's a Brazilian school with Canadian liscence to kill and a whole lotta people speaking English. But it's not bilingual or multicultural...How can I explain? I can say this better in Portuguese -  a vivência não está lá. Speaking English for the sake of speaking English in a classroom is not bilingual education. I have no idea where I get this from, there is no conscious theory behind this, I have no idea what famous person I would have to cite, I'm just getting all this from a feeling.
I guess it does annoy me, because I have to shut up so that people don't realize, by mere contrast, that they're just pretending something.
But in the end, I know they're not PRETENDING per se, they genuinely believe in all that. I don't want to be the one to crush their ideal.

Fine. So there's that about the school. And it broadens, there is so much more in my imaginary speeches and rampades.

It goes on to include anything that includes much of an opinion. I have come to consider myself opinionless these days...not really consider, I am discovering this little fact. Which reads into: I am discovering that I am quite indifferent to many matters nowadays. I am indiffirent to many things which if said outloud sound atrocious and unhumane. But truly, the indifference lends itself to irritation which grows into a much more embedded anger and temper tantrum with the world. I don't want to give an opinion because I don't care because I am angry in fact, with all this that makes up the world, at least the one I'm living in. So really, if the whole thing went up in flames, I think I would actually feel pleasure (see, the part about atrocious and out loud thinking?)
I read some psychology texts and I feel angry. It's all theory. Theory about something that is lived. Let me explain...like when I write a paper on some issue, I feel like I'm being so fake and unauthentic, for I am having to report to a theoretical level and make reference to other people who said something on the matter to talk about something that is lived. I live something, then I have to theorize about it, and the lived gets buried under that theorizing. It sounds like madness, it feels like madness.
I guess in this sense I am an artist at heart. I do not want to theorize, I abhore it actually, I want and need to express what is lived. That is all. I express what I live. And I need the expression to be pretty, I need it to be aesthetic to me, for then my world makes sense. The theory put on top of this removes me from what makes sense. Many times I read a text about whatever in Psychology, let's say, psychopatology or personality theory. Inevitably it happens that at one point or other I lose faith in the author or the text, for I get the gut feeling that this person has not lived what they are writing about and are talking about what they construct around the subject. For example, when writing about a patient, it drives me crazy how we are supposed to be able to describe what that person lives and interpret this based on some theory or model. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY. For as much as we can listen and listen to someone talk, and as much as the setting is set up to give as much allowance for authentic showing, WE WILL NEVER KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE someone's life as they live it. We just can't. All we can describe is a construction that we made of what that life must be like. So, consequently, it drives me even madder that we are supposed to elaborate on this and interpret and give meaning (and values!!) to all this. What a crazy psychotic thing to do.

I feel out of myself at this moment, I literally am feeling removed from my body and I grow light-headed and faint. It feels like I'm leaning forward and almost falling, the computer is tilting in all ackward directions. But I am just here, and the computer is just here, nothing has changed.  My muscles are cramped up in my shoulders, I wasn't aware they were scrunching up like they did and I wasn't aware that I am barely seeing the screen in front of me.

I need to stop.

Albachiara

Let's hand it over to Vasco Rossi...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEj8vyNZAJI

Albachiara

Respiri piano per non far rumore
ti addormenti di sera
ti risvegli con sole
sei chiara come un'alba
sei fresca come l'aria
diventi rossa se qualcuno ti guarda
e sei fantastica quando sei assorta
nei tuoi problemi
nei tuoi pensieri

ti vesti svogliatamente

ti piace studiare
non te ne devi vergognare

e quando guardi con quegli occhi grandi
forse un po' troppo sinceri
se vedi quello che pensi
quello che sogni
qualche volta fai pensieri strani
con una mano ti sfiori
tu sola dentro a una stanza
e tutto il mondo fuori...

tutto il mondo fuori!!

Years of ackward teenagedom came rushing back to me as I heard critique after critique of my clothes, my body, skin, hair and my glasses.

Today just wasn't my day again.

Oh no, no, no...

And here I was thinking that Education was about love, encouragement and stimulation.
Oh no, no, no, Ms. Gestalt-Psychologist, there is so much more.
I had never really considered the political side of it all, and boy, what a shock yesterday, sitting in a meeting talking about, "what character traits do we want to instill in our children, what would the "ideal" child be and how can we work this into the classroom?"

Hein?

The world of Child Education...It is like Bible School, just with different names and objectives. I'm too used to hearing about "helping people become their authentic selves" that I guess I haven't been living in the real world of what actually happens. Well, I do know this on some theoretical level, but it came as a shock to me as I saw it right before my eyes and even better, that suddenly I'm expected to participate in this "school plan".

So far it's just a bit funny, that's all. I hope it doesn't become a bigger issue for me and that if need be, I can promote my silent revolution from the corner of my toddler classroom. That's the good thing about being a T.A., I'm not the focus of attention or training in the ideological sense.

On a horse of a different color, all this makes my need for words stronger and stronger.
My little words, arranged and re-arranged; researched, thought over, painted in white, in yellow, what about purple? I'm going to be a translator, dammit. Better yet, I AM A TRANSLATOR. It's pouring out of me, the potential, the need and LA VOGLIA. Sempre questa voglia. And I'm dead certain that I'm going to make it somehow, tread my own path.

Sometimes I wish I could grab words between my fingers, pick them up in handfuls, pour them into my mouth, organize them on my desk...have them wave back.

Maple Bearness

(warning: this photo has nothing to do with anything except that I loved the little rat and I mean, there is a bear...so...)

So, here it is, the "dreaded" first day of the maple bear experience (T.A. at a Canadian Elementary School here nearby), but lo and behold, it hasn't been dreaded! I have been dealing with this whole thing like I dealt with entering (and passing the test, actually) UnB and like I dealt with my first trip to Italy. Naivite covers the whole thing, no expectations, tranquility, hoping for the best, actually not hoping, just knowing that'll be ok.

I have missed this feeling!! Welcome back!

Reconhecimento de terreno

Some considerations:

E paga.

2) Quando falo em outra língua para realmente me comunicar, I glow and I get the tingles in my toes.

3) I need to travel every now and then or else I suffocate

4) In Italy something in me speaks louder than in any other situation

5) I'm living here now. But that doesn't necessarily mean I always should or will. There are shorter courses I could try as a test drive of something...Like the language and culture courses at UnistraPg

"Put a language in your head and get on a train (B&S)"

O mundo realmente me assusta a maior parte das vezes.

Putz.
É isso.
Aaaaaaaaaaah!

If...continued

I have just read through my If...post (from way back in 2010) and I just did the first thing on that list. Without really realizing it, without planning to do so, I said, I can't do it anymore. And she listened and said, I understand, do what you have to do. I didn't even figure out what was after the "IF".

Now my stomach hurts I'm so nervous.

The voices that screech FAILURE in my head won't let me be.
FAILURE, COWARD, STUPID, SCREWED, ETC...All sorts of pleasant things.
They say, you won't be able to handle it, the not knowing, the consequences of letting go of what you know but no longer love. I know I love the people that are there, I know I love the way they make me feel safe. But at the end of the day, these people are not here with me and they are not there with me when I'm facing the possibilities of my life. They're out there facing their own.

So what is it gonna be? Can I handle the consequences of my decision, EITHER WAY? Stay or go? What makes me sick to my stomach is the feeling that I can't handle it either way. That it no longer pends on the decision itself, but on my own existance, pure and simple.

I'm scared of getting sick again, scared of the fever.

What is wisdom in this case, what is prudence, what is stupidity?

God, I pray to thee tonight like I haven't in a long time. Please help me through. Please help me through, don't leave me hanging by a thread, please don't let me flip out on myself, don't let my body lose faith and begin to lose ground.
Please god, please.

Broken Strings

Let me hold you
For the last time
It's the last chance to feel again
But you broke me
Now I can't feel anything

When I love you
It's so untrue
I can't even convince myself
When I'm speaking
It's the voice of someone else

Oh it tears me up
I tried to hold but it hurts too much
I tried to forgive but it's not enough
To make it all okay

You can't play our broken strings
You can't feel anything
That your heart don't want to feel
I can't tell you something that aint real

Oh the truth hurts
And a lie's worse
How can I give anymore
And I love you a little less than before

Oh what are we doing
We are turning into dust
Playing house in the ruins of us

Running back through the fire
When there's nothing left to save
It's like chasing the very last train
When it's too late

One year ago just about I was singing this song practically every day. Actually, it was this song that made me realize what was going on in my old relationship. I would sing this in the car on the radio and suddenly the words were so true that I was crying with this newfound insight. "You can't play on broken strings" was my mantra for weeks and weeks. It tears me up...
These emotions since then have subsided and it' ok now.

THE TRUTH HURTS, A LIE'S WORSE.

I don't want to be here. I don't want to be here anymore. I haven't been wanting to be here since 2006. And I have absolutely no idea what to do about it.
let me repeat.
I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE. I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE!
I've beaten myself down with all the rationalizations possible known to man:
1) be reasonable, here you have people you know, here you have "contacts"
2) be reasonable, you're gonna just leave everything, you need money first!
3) be reasonable, be patient, you just have to be willing to do things you dont really like until you can do what you really want.
4) be reasonable, it's just a city, it's not really about a city

Ok. Ok. Ok.
BE REASONABLE!!??
What an awful pair of words paired together.
How about this, be reasonable:
I have been doing things I don't really enjoy for the last hundred years.
I feel suffocated here and petrified half the time
I don't feel I fit in anywhere when it was supposed to come with time, I don't feel I have a home
My mother is here but isn't, I have no idea of her input and as much as I desperatley need it I desperately don't want it because I'm tired of her point of view.
Make money with what? with what? Teaching English? cuz that's all I've got, for the past 5 years, teaching English is all I've got and it was always supposed to be temporary and something to help out until I reached the next step.

WHERE IS THE NEXT STEP?

Here I am, at a dead-end with my 7 year brasilia investment in my psychology career. I want to go back and start over. I have a dead diploma in my hands and a lot of resentment. I feel betrayed by the promise that this was going to be worth it in the end, that my vocation was truly this. In the end, nobody really cares anymore and I'm left here with this degree and this qualification I don't enjoy.

I think I'm losing it, actually, i don't THINK I am, I AM.
I don't have the togetherness required for putting together a plan, for thinking long-term, for organizing myself into something that resembles and adult, because I am going crazy dealing with the suffocation, the boredom, the fright, the tiredness and the anger.
I lost the moment when I was supposed to get out of here, like my sister. I lost the several opportunities that came up in times when I didn't have maturity enough to take them.

I don't know what to do. I literally do not know what to do.
All that comes to me is that "what a huge disappointment you're going to turn out to be...AGAIN."
That's all you do, afterall, disappoint.

I don't know what to do.

Let me rant. I know this isn't the greatest attitude to deal with anything, but I'm just getting things off my chest, I'm not feeling well today.

Sadness

My soul has grown silent tonight.
I am sad beyond words, beyond worlds.

I am silent, I am grieving. People crying on TV make me cry as if they were my kin.
I don't want to eat. I know I have to, but I dont want to. I wish mealtimes could just be skipped without notice.
I wish I could pass by without notice, slip away and not have it be a fuss.

I cannot fathom what I am sad about, but it is a sadness as big as my hands, as wet as this rain, and as weary as these lines.

I spent the weekend in a place where the theme spirituality was very strong, spirituality and the search for "truth", and it got to me in a very deep place. In the place where I walked away from my religious beliefs because they no longer comforted me or made sense in my life. In the place where I walked away wanting something else, accepting the risks implicit in so doing. I felt scared this weekend as I saw these people so carelessly flowing through their religious connections.

I kept wondering, where did that piece of me go?

I know I make contact with it when I write, which is probably why I do it so much and so often.
When I write I listen to what's going on inside and then something breaks through, something comforting.
It's more a need than a want.
I get all over the place, like scrambled eggs or water that spills onto the floor. Then I start writing and it's like taking a mop or turning the eggs into a nice little sandwich. And eating it.

Or something like that.
