Remodeling

Hey there. Me. Yes, me.

Ouviu? Ok. Amen. Obrigada. Tchau.

Alone with Cora

5 MESES!! What the diabos, como assim?

Let's See What Happens

My eyesight is turning into mush. Everything is headache provoking, and by everything I mean everything. Screens or real life, it all seems to swirl, even though my doctor okayed me about a month ago.

This holiday was quite refreshing and a much needed boost for me to reach the 15th in more of one piece.

I put it in my head that I want to reach a personal target, a target full of meaning for me:
I want to complete one year working at the same place. The only time this happened was at Animax. This has grounded me, this new target.
I have a goal – stick it out a year and SEE WHAT HAPPENS. (deep breath)
Simple as that. Just see what happens as you try something never before done. See what happens as you actually grow financially independent, see what happens as you encroach on two years of a serious and stable relationship.

See what changes, see what doesn’t.

From here to there it is a stretch of a leg. I already told you my theory about the end of the year…it’s practically here. November is the real last month, not December. December is just work xmas parties, family xmas parties, friend xmas parties and so on and so forth. Everyone seems to be in a better mood in general, or just less demanding as they realize that they can let go of 2011 and all the results they expected. Let go.
See what happens. I have completed 4 months since I first set foot at my current job, the first trimester is over – maybe the morning sickness is over as well.

Gestation

I know. Again.

I just need to process.

Think fast, free associatie...

English - I don'tknow
living abroad, it's not the moment
world crisis, our economy is actually the one working well for a change (well, well enough)

Need more time to implement changes, for more clairt is needed. More clarity. Where when how what.

Psychology beckons, I miss it. I miss it.

There, I said it.
What the hell, right? How many little post do I have here about how I wanted to be very far away from it? I don't get it. But ok, write, free association. I miss thinking like a psychologist, I miss the critical thinking, the analytical thinking about life and ways of life. I miss how everything was relative and human were more human.

I miss studying psychopathology especially, it's something I've always had an attraction to. I miss being with people who actually accept this and understand.

I want to go back and finish my course. I want to find something to write my final thesis about. I want to write. I want to study, reading books and taking notes and underlining passages, making summaries and getting ideas. I've been feeling quite stupid without it.

English is the now. I don't know if it's the future. Help me god. HELP ME. Seriously.

Something is gonna give. I know it is.

My Foot is Scared

My fear is in my foot. It has been hurting and it physically retreats at the thought of someone touching it,
The nerve is in the wrong place and if pressed, will make my foot shoot with electricity. My tendons hurt as well. The more stressed I feel, the more it hurts.

I was able to make an appointment with a doctor, TOMORROW. This is unbelievable. One morning off and look what I've accomplished! Two doctors scheduled, my computer organized and more familiar, bath taken, sleep slept and nice lunch had.

I hope I can let the doctor touch my foot. What a scary thought.

Enter Leo

"Oh Jesus Christ Almighty..."

"...Do I feel alright, no not slightly!"

Hello. Long time. Loooong days, short nights and so it goes.
I just got off a plane or so it seems, but it's been 4 hours almost.
This weekend was crazy good and crazy rushed and intense.
So much to say so much to say so much to say so much to say.
I need to sleep.
That's all I have to say, actually, I NEED TO SLEEP and get my head together and my feet back down to Earth.
I'll try better than that, here are some words. Piece them together as you best understand:

Steps and Babies

Alright, so I've got so much to say that I don't know what to say.
Estou oficialmente instalada no novo emprego e oficialmente desvinculada do outro.
Por mais que eu não seja a típica brasiliense, me considero brasiliense, eu sou daqui, I am FROM here...o famoso FROM. Não sou FROM the US...Os verbos são outros...I was born there, I lived there, my father is from there, I visit there...etc.
That's an intersting realization, the fact that it's ok, I'm not FROM there and it's ok. Things aren't so clearcut and that's ok, it still has a legitimate existance, all the shades of gray.
I don't know how long this new adventure will last, I have no idea where it'll take me and how I'll be feeling about it all a few months from now. I know I feel a little pang in my heart when I think of my "babies" and toddler class, I know I will miss them. But it's time to move on, and life is moving on...

Meia hora

Getting Somewhere

Some things take getting used to.
For some people that might mean a week, two..maybe a couple of months.
In Maya land, that means almost a semester doing the exact same thing and only NOW, NOW, almost JUNE, I've gotten to a point where it's coming (more) naturally, time actually goes by without much ado and I can have a life outside this "new thing".

I know I've said this before..but every week my relationship with my job changes, grows, morphs...It's intensive adaptation in many, many, many senses.

Go beyond the obvious, the "actual job and routine".
That's not what I'm talking about anymore.
It's more like...
Adaptation to what I thought I should be doing and what I'm actually doing.
Adaptaton to what the "bosses" believe I should be doing and what I feel is best (and eventually end up doing).
My adaptation to the kids and theirs to me. To the coworkers...
To people's moods...ideologies...
To my moods and fears...
Sounds boring...it is, pretty much.
What fascinates me in all this is the novelty of the idea that I'm sticking it out. That I'm doing something normal. Me! Normal!
Of course, I'm considering when to get out...but it's different from before. I'm dealing with the panic of it, and not taking the straight route of bailing. I consider bailing - I go into total and outright crisis - but then I'm able to go back to middle ground of level-headedness and considering the other option.

That is the fascination in play. I have a budget, for christ's sake, I have long-term plans. The crises don't stick to me like superglue...don't stick to my stomach. So yes, I have fledglings of long-term plans...And more, I'm actually curious to give them a shot and see what happens, how it all turns out.

I think I might be getting somewhere.

A Frog Pondering

Ainda bem.

Luce che cade dagli occhi

Ascoltami, ascoltami...siamo luce che cade dagli occhi!

Domani tenho meu primeiro bico de tradução simultânea, logo italiano, logo no Itamaraty!
Mas que bom que é logo! LOGO!

And the season changes,
There will be new roses
Life goes on
Here and beyond that horizon
Goes on and it changes,
and it changes you too

Vertigine

So, imagine the feeling. You're on a plane. A big jumbo airliner. Over the planet, thousands of miles over ocean and clouds, in the middle of nowhere. Know the feeling?

(Listen to the music a little bit before proceding...)

Now imagine that little fright you feel when the airplane tips one wing down suddenly, and starts to turn, almost 180 if not that...Have you ever felt that? And if you happen to be by the windows, suddenly you are either looking straight up into the sky, into miles of atmosphere away from the ground...or, if on the other side of this tipping plane, directly to earth, face down to the rooftops and tiny silver lakes and rivers.

I feel like I'm in a big ol' tipping jumbo plane and looking straight up at the sky.

a song about feet

Waiting for my Real Life to Begin
Colin Hay
Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll stand on the bow
And feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down, down, down on me

And you said,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path
And up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my own footsteps once again

And you say,"Just be here now
Forget about the past
Your mask is wearing thin"
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine
There's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, oh so very soon
It's just that times are lean

And you say,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

On a clear day
I can see, see for a long way

On a clear day
I can see, see a very long way

"Shouldisms"

So, that fast train metaphor still applies. Even having woken up with time to spare, I still have the feeling. Little chores and little events I have to take care of and I feel like time does not exist at all! Does this have anything to do with the Japan earthquake and the axis of the Earth and all that? ;)  I need some time to feel things and just be, but that’s not happening anytime soon. Or perhaps this evening?
So many ‘shoulds’ are nagging in my ear:
I should go grocery shopping
I should do my nails
I should do the laundry
I should go out with friends, with my mom
I should fix my car
I should eat something
I should walk to work
I should drop off the thing my mother asked me to drop off, even if that interferes with walking to work
I should be studying something...
I should sleep at different hours
I should do the translation exercises
I should calm down
I should take care of my feet/back/head/stomach
I should see the dentist/doctor/psychiatrist

I only have time for priorities and MY priorities, at best. Sometimes not so much, and it is other people’s prioritites…but if you look at it in a different way, my priority is to not have people in my hair and nagging me, so their priorities can sometimes be my own.

Still

My lungs feel tired again, like exactly a month ago. It feels tiresome to breathe and speak. Anything involving air through pipes. Does not feel nice at all. :/

But just putting that aside a minute, I actually feel very good.

As I made my way to school today, I felt oddly calm. I remember thinking: I finally have a routine. A real routine where I feel secure in every aspect. I don't dread going to work, I don't dread waking up or going to sleep...I mean, it's all ok. It even occured to me in a one big illuminated thought, I LIKE WHAT I'M DOING! That's got to be a first in a long time. I not only like it, I LIKE it, with all my body. Can't put it into words quite well.
That just confirmed intself when my colleague told me she's really happy with me and believes that by the end of the year I would be qualified to take on a class myself, as the teacher teacher. I looked at her, eyes wide open and something in that resonated. She asked me: do you want to be a teacher here? do you want to be a teacher, do you like this? do you want to work in schools? why don't you want psychology?

Aaah, one after another, and all I could do was listen and have some strange light dawn on me...Maybe I am finally where I'm meant to be. I had no reason to say no to her ideas and encouragement, unless I intentionally wanted to boycott myself. It was crystal clear.

A little girl fell asleep in my arms today and I wanted to take her home with me, or better yet, I wanted one of my own...and it was worth every minute of stress and repetition...she felt conforted enough to sleep with me. So much stillness...shhh

I am so relieved because I feel still inside.
I am exactly where I'm supposed to be.

Lightheaded

Let's talk some sense into this little head of mine.
I'm at a good job. It's a perfectly fine job, actually, for someone who has no idea what she's doing and doesn't want to work in her field.
That's not the issue. The issue is around this and the free time...the time that is supposed to go towards investing in something...Ok, so I translated this week, got a few bucks more this month, I should be thrilled. I am, but I want more, more, more.
So, Impatience, yes, I know.
I get swept away by these bouts of impatience slash agony that make me feel like a balloon...I start swelling up, literally. I feel my head swelling, my lungs swelling, the difficulty in breathing, in thinking, everything full of air. And then I have to quiet myself down, I have to sit in a corner and count to 10, I have to limit the world to that corner before the balloon goes POP!
There is nothing to be done when the swelling starts other than this little ritual and self-soothing. I have to wait until I can breathe again, deflate deflate!
I have to wait until the world seems livable again and I'm not a balloon person waiting to pop. That's the least one should hope for.
To look at your feet and not see the sky upside down - to see your feet.

Ok, some sense is returning. Outside of this job, I just have to be patient and not lose sight of certain things...Like, the reason I went there asking for a job in the first place. Like what I want to do with all these languages in my head. Like my budget and monthly expenses. "Welcome to the real world she said, condenscendenly..." That just came to me, the John Mayer lines...
Stream of consciousness tonight, it seems. My eight grade teacher told me to do this kind of writing everyday for it would be good not only for the writer in me, but for my psyche. I kept that letter for a long time, she really believed in me and the writing ready to pour out of my every cell, and that letter was a cherished object of mine...too bad I don't know where it is anymore.

Today I have two lines, one for each side of me that pulls and tugs.
Two screaming bright beige ones, never red, never?

Papillon

Butterfly by Laisa B.J.

Frog Pondering

(artwork by John Lennon)

arghy arghy argh!
Snap, crackle, snap!

Sento-me na inércia.

and yet,
arghy arghy argh!
Snap, crackle, snap!

Maple Bearness

(warning: this photo has nothing to do with anything except that I loved the little rat and I mean, there is a bear...so...)

So, here it is, the "dreaded" first day of the maple bear experience (T.A. at a Canadian Elementary School here nearby), but lo and behold, it hasn't been dreaded! I have been dealing with this whole thing like I dealt with entering (and passing the test, actually) UnB and like I dealt with my first trip to Italy. Naivite covers the whole thing, no expectations, tranquility, hoping for the best, actually not hoping, just knowing that'll be ok.

I have missed this feeling!! Welcome back!
