Sister Love

Esta semana entre o Natal e Ano Novo tem sido um lindo hiato do mundo, nós duas em nosso ninho e fazendo whatever the hell we want. WHATEVER THE HECK I WANT!
Não to a fim, não faço.
Simples assim.

If...

If...(...)

I'd march right in the clinic and take my supervisor aside: I cannot do this anymore, figure it out.

Then I'd march right to the secretaries and ask for my trancamento form: I can't do this anymore, figure it out. I just can't.

Then I'd have extra money and extra mental energy to see where to go from there. I wouldn't spend so much of both hating every moment of being in class, writing the papers and going to the meetings. I wouldn't feel like I'm betraying myself.

Then, I'd take the money from my new job and not have to pay those monthly bills that tie me up and prevent me from doing anything else I actually want. Like French. Or a trip.
I'd rent a place, I'd tell my mom, I can't do it anymore. I need a place I can walk to and fro, a place that makes me feel alive. Anything.
I'd sell my car and spend the money that I won't spend on car headaches with bus fares or bottles of water I can buy on my way "to and fro" to quench the thirst of walking. I'd lose weight because I'd be in shape and I'd feel good, even if my clothes get sweaty and my feet might ache a bit.

I'd tell my boyfriend I love him and that I am finally figuring out how to walk my own path, that he is not to worry and not to take it as a sign that I've lost it and need guidance. I'd tell him that taking the alleged easier path is amazing and not at all easy. Even if it were, I take pride in taking it, it has been too many years of having to take the allegedly morally superior difficult path of not listening to what I really want in the name of expectations and "rights" and "wrongs.
I'd tell him how liberating it feels and how maybe he could do something like it if he wanted to, I'd back him up 100%.

Then I'd be living my own life and then I'd be a better version of me and we'd be a better version of us, I'm sure.

New Year's Eve is coming up...

Now I need to figure out what should follow the IF.

If...

25 de Natal

“Somedays aren’t yours at all, they come and go as if they’re someone else’s day.”

“This is what Christmas does to us, we put too much meaning in it and it ends up letting us down.”

Então, voltemos a história.

Acordei 7:30, acordando ansiosa já mas encarando a bruta realidade, tudo bem, vamos nessa, meu fiel companheiro de aventuras ao meu lado e meu palio...all the way to the airport about an hour away.
So, I’m grumpy.

Ah.
Obrigada, I think.
Tenho a brilhante idéia:
Super.
Chove e chove e chove e Ez dorme e dorme.
Nem me abalei.
Super!

Realmente...Let it go.

The Bend in my Hair

Today I share a poem, it's been a while. Nobody better than my name buddy Angelou to give me some food for my poetry.

Also cuz I'm feeling a bit this phenomenality...

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Maya, Change, Change, Maya

Pardon for sharing the utmost boring details of my daily schedules, but it helps me a lot to write things down when my mind starts getting confused.

So.
Lots going on.

1. Finish my demo-translation to present to my teacher next week, as a project for an entire book translation (with a publisher and everything) and/or as a project for my own little end of course "thesis", the "monography".

2. Organize my translation material, portfolio, etc, now that the course is over and all payments are paid! (YAY)

3. Finish off my student's classes, today and tomorrow, with x-mas themes and little gifts...hmm, really need to get that organized.

4. Find out if I'm ever going to get paid and how much for my last translation

5. Go on my JOB INTERVIEW for a possible new job as a in locus translator for the international department of an evangelical church...sounds bizarre but sounds wonderful too! Also, go on a test drive as a freelance translator/interpreter (still dont know which it is) for a few days at a conference with an Amercian guy coming in.

6.Begin end of year essay for IGTB. Haven't even thought about starting..got 3 weeks.

7. X-mas shopping and organizing. Oh lord, I'm scared...shopping malls and crazed brasilienses with their shopping mania. :S We shall overcome!

8. Go take a look at new apartment place with boyfriend and actually see what it looks like and feel what it feels like!

9. Aah! Aaaah! Add to that: Lose 10kgs and you've got a little nervous wreck.

10. Digest the fact that my sister is arriving in 10 days and my father is coming to visit after 5 years in about a month and my mom is probably moving from Brasilia in sync with my move to the new place.

Maya and big changes, big changes and Maya, a saga with still lots to come...await!

A grama

Pensei, Deus! Eu quero me curar!
Minha mente?
Deus, me sinto muito perdida

sou/nos

so many things, so many things!

Parenthesis

Words are flowing out like endless pain into my coffee cup
They whisper while they pass
They run away into my universe

Pools of sorrow, waves of joy
are drifting through my tired mind
Posessing and caressing me
Posessing and caressing me

Not sure I've gotta change my world...
not sure if,
not sure how,
not sure what I want

But I'm listening.

Sim, eu sei

Qual o problema?"
Ok. ok. E se for assim?

Eu sei...eu sei.

Follow the Day

Follow the day and reach for the sun

Some motivational words from your sponsors...

I'm trying to remember how I dealt with this exact dilema about a year ago, when I almost quit my course. How did I keep going, how did I give in to flow of things and let go?
I remember vaguely.
Something about giving up on wanting to know about the day after tomorrow, on not really worrying where that could take me as long as I was doing well in the here and now zone.
Actually, it wasn't so much a choice as me realizing that I could either give in or I could give out. It was about being so incredibly tired of worrying and surrendering.
Something about doing the best I could in the present situation with what I had and not making things be so important and life or death.

Stepping back a bit.

Cutting myself some slack.

That sounds good.

O blog sou eu

I never thought bangs could cause such a commotion. Internal commotion. At home commotion.

I want to break free, God knows I want to break free.

Não estaria me traindo?
Sinto muita tristeza.

One Step Closer

I have bangs now.
I HAVE BANGS NOW.
I have not had bangs since I was what...8?

It's very foreign and for the time being it feels like there's a brick of hair on my forehead, heavy and ackward. But then I look in the mirror and it's ok.

I had to do it, the being inside of me has been demanding this for years now, yet I hadn't the courage needed for such a drastic step.
I would always shy away with excuses and fears such as "I don't have a good face-shape for that" or "naaah, too childish" or the more ominous "bangs are a bad, bad idea!"

Today I said, well, ok, it might be bad, but I've gotta try.
And I did!
I've never been so happy with a haircut before.

As the hairdresser snipped away I could not help and grin like a little girl, for I felt like that, stubborn, mischievous, daring and bold.
Welcome back!

I am one step closer to being someone I actually identify with.

7AM

7AM in my apartment is full of shadows and incipient light reaching around the corners.
The sun is lazy, hazy,
not quite open for business.

7AM is heavy with heavy eyelids
and liquid with warm coffee.

7AM in my apartment is limbo land
No one is up but me
alien in my own house
tiptoeing around, hush, hush
feed the cats, make something that resembles breakfast

waiting a few more minutes - the sun will wake up
and it'll be time to get onto the busy streets of 7AM goers and doers.

What Dreams May Come

Funny the way it is...

What dreams may come

Mystery to me.

E a chuva cai e cai, mas só chove e chove

I Know a Spell

"I know a spell, it will make you help
write about love it can be in any tense but it must make sense
I know a trick, forget that you are sick
write about love it could be in any form hand it to me in the morning

I know the way (so you know the way)
Get on your skinny knees and pray (maybe not today)
you've gotta see the dream through the windows and the trees of your living room
(of your living room!)"

Me and my coffee, my coffee and I.
and B&S.
And a blank page.

perfetto!

Apparently I am exhausted today, went to bed at midnight, woke up at 10:30. Actually, woke up several times between 8 and 10:30 but wasn't able to muster up the energy required to actually get up and wake up 100%.
Apparently I am exhausted every day.
I know that 14 hours in a day, most often than not, prove themselves to be too much. Somewhere along the way I take a break or else get utterly overwhelmed (and then take a break).
I missed writing in here this week, even though it's been 3 days only, but I still missed it.
Caught up in my translations (lost in translation?), classes and getting through 14 or so hours.

As the plane came down and landed over Brasilia last Monday, the same old thoughts circulated through my bloodlines: always the same plane, the same landing, on repeat, on repeat, on repeat mode.
When I lie in bed and start to daydream, it takes me away on that same plane. However, if I am feeling rather realistic, I imagine what I could do without stepping foot in an airport.
The scenario is always an invariable variation of the same scene, something GOES. Out the window.
I see the dream through the windows and trees of my living room and I go after it. I go after my gut feeling, my unrational self, against all "but what if...what if...what if it all goes terribly wrong!?"
And so I go back to my 14 or so hours with occasional breaks and fantasies.

I want the world to stop, I want the world to stop
Give me the morning, give me the afternoon, the night!

But you know what, so long as I can write and shout in here, as long as I can shout myself anywhere, I can do pretty well. As long as words are my friends, here we are.

Love-Hate

I love food,
I hate food. Hate my compulsion for it, hate the way it makes me feel better, hate the way my anxiety calls for it.
I'm feeling awful in my body, feeling uncomfortable, feeling moody as hell.
Hate fooood! Hate how I love it.

My Method

ne me quitte pas me quitte paaaaaas

Enfim, there's a method to my madness, I think. Alguns princípios que me guiam:

Je vous dirai comment me va...

My Shelves

Fiona Apple - Please Please Please

Give us something familiar, something similar to what we know already
that will keep us steady, steady,
steady going nowhere!
please please please... no more remedies
my method is uncertain, it's a mess but it's workin'

What should I do, how do I organize my mind with my necessities and my desires? With the crazy mood oscillations? Urgh, hate that last part. Destructive as all hell.
Migraines migraines, now I have to monitor these and keep a good ole diary of my attacks, possible triggers and etc.
I'm confused as to my priorities at this given moment of the year.
What do I want?
I know that.

What do I need to do, then? Perfect translation skills and languages skills. Okie dokie, so that's what the CTJ course has been doing for me in the English department. I feel the need to study more Spanish, but I wonder about the money involved.
Which leads me to many other issues...

I want a routine, that I know. I want to have a routine and stick to it, that's the main problem. Each day something else comes up that make a routine very very secondary. A migraine, an unexpected panic attack, rain, no work, work, no work....students cancelling classes, trips, holidays, mom travelling in and out of town. Here enters the living in another country fantasy, constructing my own life fantasy. I want to construct the variables around me.

What else do I want?
I want to define my IGTB status. I'm so tired of doubting it, of wondering, of being unsatisfied with my being there and my incredible desire of just letting it GO. It doesn't make anymore sense to me, it doesn't make any sense in my life. Do you understand the anguish this causes? It's like if I were investing in a quantic physics career when I KNOW that I'm not going to be a quantic physicist. And what am I doing then, just waiting for it to be OVER to go after what I really desire? Why am I not doing that now, then? See the issue? It really bugs me. Somewhere deep down I know that if I let it go, it'll be so important for me and will free me up to be who I feel to be most truly.

I don't have answers to these questions, I have directions that point places and I have the desire to go. What is keeping me from going then, I ask? I know exactly what it is and I wonder here to myself, is it really worth it? (in case you are wondering, other people's opinios, my sense of failure, my own opinion, fear, fear, fear, fear and caution)
In one word, I am restless. I have the energy, I don't have the vector, like they say in Physics. That's just a recipe for entropy, I believe. Forgive my loose usage of all these very important terms, but I really don't remember the least of Physics.

All I know at the moment is: let's go do my nails.

Palavras

All Together Now

Il Corriere della Sera, La Nación, El País, Le Monde, The New York Times, etc...

Vamos conversar e rir e chorar ainda muitas vezes e vou dizer e repetir e repetir: TE AMO!

Como fui me perdendo da Psicologia

December 27th, 2005
I still haven't understood that classes start sooooon. My head is going wacko over here, struggling to stay afloat. It's forgotten what it's like to be productive.

January 1st, 2006

January 4th, 2006
Something very weird happened this afternoon/evening. I came back from UnB and...I remember that around 8 I was feeling like I was waking up, like I had been very far away and returned...I lookd back at my day and couldn't recognize myself...It still makes me feel a bit sick in the stomach...What happened to my life today, it was so ackwardly painful. I went into a parallel universe? I guess I've never felt so uncomfortable in a place I used to feel comfortable at...How could I tell anyone? I remember holding back tears in TEP and then at Estatística I snapped into this WEIRD WEIRD alter Maya - one I've NEVER FELT BEFORE. How can I explain? I got caught up in the UnB..I imagine everyone else's experiences..the arrogant, competitive, nasty one and I was really doubting my choice. Deep down I KNEW that I could never be a real psychologist, I could never be one of them and taht made me so nervous, for I lost my focus, my SELF. For the first time I felt WEAK and BROKEN and I felt like such a fake and my soul hurt...
I don't know how it happened. Maybe it was my only defense since I can't talk to anyone and I couldn't cry in class. My conscience went beserk.
But the feeling of having been gone and now coming back is AMAZING. Horrible, but intriguing....

Com'è possibile sentire cose così forti in così poco tempo?
So che posso ritornare mas non so come cominciare, perchè non so cosa voglio.
Me senti tão saudável, tão feliz.

July 10th, 2006 - Italia tetracampione!
Reta final, reta final do 6o semestre.

July 12th, 2006
I guess I'm SCARED. Suddenly I got lost from the herd in the middle of an existencial blizzard. I can't remember why I wanted to be a psychologist, I can't feel my initial excitement. I don't want to, but the word "psychology" is making me sick.

July 17th, 2006

August 29th, 2006
Meu Deus, ajude-me a acalmar.

15 year old's Autobiography

Ten years ago, an English teacher gave us the following assigment: to write our own autobiographies in about a page.
Well, that was boring enough for me and I ended up writing something he would give me a B for but that I have carried with me since then.

I was 15.

Here goes:

Maya

I used to have this friend, and it's very strange how I can count the time and number the years on my fingers of when I last saw her. I could've never imagined back then that I'd be here, four years older and four years on my own. A lot has happened and I've been to new places and have also left those new places. I've ended back where it all started and to my surprise, life has continued. Changes have occured and there's little that has been constant. All I know is that it's the times between those changes that count, the time we spend inside the new experiences, for that time is most valuable.

Sometimes you're with the people you love, sometimes you're left empty. Not exactly empty, for there's always something that lives on in memory. And of course, there's always the new people. She told me that before she left, I would meet so many new people that I would live on. As always, she was right. New people have com, and enough time has gone by for them to leave...that's how it works.

She used to say a lot of things. She said once that I think too much. I thought a lot about what she said and realized I do think too much. I don't think it's a really bad thing, for it's who i am and thoughts are what we are made up of. The thing was that she knew me, and she was able to see what destroyed and blessed me better than anyone else. I miss the light she was able to shine and how it made me that much warmer.

She also said that in order to move forward we have to let go of the past. That's why she let go of me. It hurt a lot, but I was able to understand her. I know she would've liked to know, but I wasn't able to tell her. She didn't mean any harm out of it and reassured me that it was for the best. Actually, she didn't really say that, but I know she would've, if she wasn't so afraid to hurt me. People that love you don't ever want to hurt you. They do, but it's never intentional. That's one thing I learned from her without her telling me. If you love someone, you've got to learn to get over their faults and learn to take the wound as a sign of love. It's pretty confusing but I learned it well enough.

Friends stay in your heart in such a way that it's intoxicating. Sometimes it's a light sweeping of presence in our minds, but not so light to pass by unnoticed. The effect that memory has been changing ove ritme, for now it's easier to smile and laugh at some things we went through, or to think on the absence without breaking down. I have no idea where she is right now, or how life's been treating her. That's what hurts the most, not knowing. I miss her but I'd rather go through this now than to try to imagine what my life would've been like if fate had taken a very different turn four distant years ago.

Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk

Cigarettes and chocolate milk
these are just a couple of my cravings
Everything it seems i like's a little bit stronger
a little bit thicker
a little bit harmful for me
If I should buy jellybeans
have to eat them all in just one sitting
Everything it seems I like's a little bit sweeter
a little bit fatter
a little bit harmful for me
And then there's those other things
which for several reasons we won't mention
Everything about them is a little bit stranger
a little bit harder
a little bit deadly
It isn't very smart
tends to make one part so broken-hearted... (Rufus Wainwright)

Hooked on this song at the moment. It's on repeat on youtube whilst I translate my incredible 26 page project, todo en español, thank you very much.

Oh what a world!

a little bit...
a little...
alittle

The lyrics kept pounding into my brain the whole day long and it really got to me. Me and my clonazepans, me and my chocolate cravings, me and my self denials and eternal pushing of boundaries. But such is life sometimes, human limitations and human humanity.

a little bit sweeter
a little bit harmful
a little bit harder
a little bit faster

Therapy's been going really well and my faith in the process has been restored. I got lucky, I guess, that I'm finally with the right person at the right time. I left the session today with a warm feeling in my heart that some actual work might get done this time and that I am ready for this new phase in my whole process.

Many questions and meanderings! Which is excellent, by the way...

Petit Readers

So...a thousand petit reader visitors, who are you? I imagine that about half of 1000 is me myself and I when I don't login, of course...another half of that my bf's...boy and best friend...then what? I wonder about the people I've never seen in my life and who somehow make it onto this page. Do any return after the first accidental encounter? Where do you live, where do you come from? Are you reading the English, the Portuguese, does anything make sense?
Will I ever know who I write for, if anyone (except the obvious me!)? Show yourselves! (please!)

:P
So, that's the thought of the day. Moving on...

Deus abençoe essa semana, I need it.

Over and out.

Marmellata

Listen to:

You didn't lie to me, but I lived the lie.
You were honest, but I was cheated.

We got stuck in the paradox of complete honesty that didn't make any sense and left me to think: where is the missing piece? In me? In you?

I tried to make some things real and tangible and that turned into complete merde, excuse my French.
To exit the paradox I had to leave our symbiotic you-me and check it with the world, the world you told me would never understand, the world that would be unforgiving, the world that did not understand pure love.

The world, it turns out, was very unforgiving and scoffed at the whole idea we so carefully constructed and rationalized.

You felt betrayed, but I was trying to unbetray myself.
You felt abandoned, but I was trying to regain my sanity.
I hurt you trying to undo the hurt you had caused me.
There are no victims, there are no perpatrators. I'm sorry for the both of us.

Nowadays you leave my memories alone more and more, yet there are a few moments when it all comes back full force. And I have to deal, just like you do.

All I want nowadays is for anything to make sense.
"Let's build a house together, let's run away, let's start afresh, let's conquer the world, let's stay here and be reasonable. " Please, please, please play along with me.

Like Alice said "So long as I get somewhere..."

I'm ok. I know it doesn't sound ok, but I am.

Vou achar um caminho.

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.

"I don't much care where—" said Alice.

"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

"As long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."
